For the Dar es Salam University College of Education ( DUCE ), and in collaboration with Michigan State University, in collaboration with Architect Nancy Arbogast, we have designed an sample play & learn area on the campus of the teachers academy in Dar es Salam. Promoting the power of Play through simple elements and spatial interventions that invite children to play – stimulating the learning goals from the Tanzanian national curriculum for preschools. As yearly dozens of Tanzanian teachers are being educated at DUCE, this playground will function as an example of how outdoor space can enhance learning through play. A design book has been made, to inspire other preschools.
