For the Dar es Salam University College of Education ( DUCE ), and in collaboration with Michigan State University, in collaboration with Architect Mr Madoshi, we will design an exemplary play & learn area on the campus of the teachers academy in Dar es Salam. Promoting the power of Play through simple elements and spatial interventions which invite children to play – stimulating all different learning-goals, according to the Tanzanian national curriculum for preschools. As yearly dozens of Tanzanian teachers are being educated at DUCE, this playground will function as an example of how outdoor space can enhance learning through play. The simple elements and spatial interventions will be easily replicable, made out of local materials in order to be replicated at other pre-schools throughout Tanzania.
