Haag Wonen, a large social housing association in The Hague, sees that many of the inner courtyards are not used much by their residents. How can Haag Wonen upgrade these courtyards in a climate-adaptive way, invite residents to make more use of their semi-public courtyards, and at the same time prevent the severe experiences of unwanted and criminal use from the past?

We developed a participatory process and designed their courtyard together with the residents.

Better zoning, manageable greenery, recycled play elements, seating and zoning elements made from upcycled concrete blocks, all neighbourhood residents receive plank benches.
